What I ate and drank on my trip to Miami
Intense, pretentious, yet always welcoming, Miami stands as a radiant oasis amidst the cold and ungrateful winter in the US. Our friends Consu and Martin knew well that my husband and I love warm weather, so they gave us a weekend getaway to Florida’s most fabulous city as a gift for our wedding.
During the 48 intense hours we spent there, we got tanned at the beach, meandered through the colorful Wynwood district, and met our friends living there.
However, what we did the most in almost all these activities was eating and drinking. In my foodie vein, here’s what I found, and I think you should try it if you are around:
1. Mandolin Aegean Bistro
A creative Greek proposal, this spot is one of the best-ranked restaurants in Beli and The Infatuation. Its ambiance, reminiscent of a scene from Mamma Mia, features a colorful, beachy garden setting where they serve unique meals with fresh ingredients. We went straight from the airport to this place for lunch, which was great. I’d recommend making a reservation, but you can always walk in if you don’t mind waiting.
Don’t miss out on the zucchini chips, the mantis dumplings, and the grilled octopus! I was so hungry that I didn’t take pictures of the food, but here I share some of their Instagram account photos that are pretty nice.
2. Lagniappe Bar
This spot is the coolest one lately for spending a pleasant cheese and wine night with friends. Located in Midtown, Lagniappe is an old house with a vast garden where someone bought hundreds of different kinds of tables and vintage pieces of furniture and placed them randomly around the house. The result? A hipster spot with live jazz music, where the jungle’s law prevails: if you see an empty table, you take it; no one will help you to get one. Initially, it seems a bit stressful, especially with the number of people in the house, but after a couple of minutes, there’s always a spot left.
What I liked the most about this place is that the wine list and the cheese and charcuteries they offer are almost endless. Here, you’re invited to select your beer, wine, and snacks, taking them out of their fridges -just as if you were at a grocery store- with the bonus of a kitchen ready to toast some bread and prep your charcuterie board.
Again, I had so much fun that I only took pictures of us enjoying the place, but here are some images that reflect our last night.
3. Caracas Bakery
As a breakfast and brunch lover, I did significant research on this matter and found the -almost perfect- place to get a fantastic first meal of the day. Are you obsessed with croissants? If yes, this is your place.
Caracas is a bakery in MiMo that skillfully blends French and Venezuelan culinary traditions to craft exceptional pastries and breakfast dishes.
Their specialty, of course, is croissants and toasts. If you like soft scrambled eggs, make sure to order the Croix Sandwich, which has the eggs, avocado, cheddar cheese, and tomatoes inside a puffy and crunchy croissant; heavenly perfect.
Their coffee is excellent as well! While weekends might see a crowd, the wait is well worth it. I DID take pictures here!! But I also attached their images because the people at Caracas are amazing photographers.
Have you been to these places? Do you have other delicious eateries around Miami? Don’t hesitate to write me!
Happy eating,
Paz
